As the state’s chief regulator for the banking, energy, insurance, real estate, residential construction, securities, and telecommunications industries, the Minnesota Department of Commerce is concerned with the health of the individual companies as well as making sure consumer’s interests are protected.
It is the mission of the Minnesota Department of Commerce to ensure equitable commercial and financial transactions and reliable utility services by: regulating and licensing business activity in more than 20 industries; investigating and resolving consumer complaints; advocating the public's interest before the Public Utilities Commission; and, administering various state programs.
Believing that consumers are best served by companies operating in a vital, competitive marketplace, providing a fair and consistent regulatory environment, and by encouraging the growth of competition, the Department of Commerce are enabling the people of Minnesota to build a healthy economic base that serve communities and citizens across the state.
